A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000, in Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn for Dr. Lewis DeMent, who died August 15, of radiation-induced heart disease at age 55.

Dr. DeMent was born March 6, 1945, in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, and from medical school at the University of Texas at Galveston.

Dr. Lewis moved to Portland, Oregon in 1972 to intern at Good Samaritan Hospital, and was then an emergency room physician for Good Samaritan Hospital for about 18 years until 1991, and also assisted Dr. William Parsons in neurosurgery for 17 years until January. For the past six years, Lewis was Medical Director of Liberty Northwest Insurance.

In 1973, he married Patricia Downer. Survivors include his wife; and daughter, Kathryn.

Private interment will be in River View Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the church. Arrangements are by Holman's Funeral Service.
