CISCO - Marilyn C. McBride,71, of Cisco, Texas, passed away Oct. 12, 2016, in Waco, Texas. She was born Marilyn Coleman on April 11, 1945, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Lydia Maye and Samuel Edwin Coleman Jr. The oldest of six children, Marilyn took loving care of her siblings while her parents toiled away in the cotton fields on their farm north of Plainview, Texas. While a student at Plainview High School, she met Roy L. Ford from Lockney, Texas, at a church revival. After graduation she married Roy and they moved to a farm near Elkhart, Kansas, and later had two daughters. Roy died in a car accident near Liberal, Kansas, on Jan. 1, 1971, after which Marilyn moved back to Plainview with her young daughters. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1975 and moved to Arlington, Texas, to become an English teacher. In February 1980 she and a group of fellow teachers went to a country and western dance hall. One of the new teachers, Steven H. McBride, offered to teach her how to dance, and they fell in love that night. after a whirlwind  courtship, they married April 19, 1980. During the summers, Marilyn and Steve hosted family gatherings at the lake, providing fun-filled days with water sking, inner tubing, and laughter. After retiring from teaching in 2002, she realized her childhood dream of owning a farm with horses. She was a doting "Mernie" to her five previous grandchildren, showering each one with a week of horseback riding, movies and hours of Horse-Opoly every summer. One of her most generous attributes was hand-crafting beautiful blankets, crafts and cross-stitch artwork, bestowing them upon many delighted family and friends. She loved horses, cats, gardening, laughing at Steve's jokes, and spoiling her family. Marilyn and Steve hosted an annual family reunion affectionately named "Coleman Chaos" where she fulfilled many individual requests for baking delectable desserts. At Thanksgiving she would gleefully participate in a yearly Silly String War with her grandchildren. During the last few years of her life, Marilyn, her sister and daughters journeyed to various Texas cities for girlfriend getaways filled with entertainment, shopping, and laughter, nicknamed the "Red Tent Road Trip." She was a vision of loveliness and selflessness throughout her entire life, bestowing unconditional love upon each member of her family. She will be most endearingly loved and missed in infinity.
