Joe Barnett

Joe Barnett 64, died Oct. 15, 2009 in Amarillo. He was born July 21, 1945, in Claude, Texas, to Gene and Beryl Barnett. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1963. Joe served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-67, attaining the rank of Platoon Sergeant.  He was involved in Operation Star Light with the 1st Marine Division and was assigned to the Green Berets on occasion for operations near the DMZ and Chu Cai in radar and radio communications. Joe returned from Vietnam in 1966 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton through 1967. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1972 and served as Assignment Personnel Director for the City of Amarillo from 1972-1975. He served as Director of Safety for Continental Carbon in Dumas from 1975-79, as Director of Safety & Risk Management for Hooker Chemicals in New Orleans from 1979-84 and Municipal Court Judge for the City of Amarillo from 1984-86. Joe was self employed and semi-retired and was living in Amarillo at the time of his death.  he is survived by one son, Daniel Barnett of Denver; one daughter, Rachel McAree and her husband, Chris, of Denver; the mother of his children, Pat Barnett of Denver; three brothers, Mike Barnett and his wife, Nancy, of McKinney, Robert Barnett and his wife, Linda, of Plainview and Craig Barnett and his wife, Bridgetta, of Orlando, Fl.; two grandchildren, Claudia and Henry of Denver, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe is buried in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, Texas.

Glynn Neal

Joe was also  City of Plainview Municipal Court Judge.  He was also the most fair of any that we have had so far.
