Gerald Autry

 

Loyd Gerald Autry went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 19th, at 2 p.m. at College Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, January 18th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone.

Gerald was born on November 19, 1944 to Ira William Autry and Dessie Lorene Painter Autry. He was an only child and his mother doted on him.Gerald lived on the same farm for 78 years south of Plainview, simply moving up the road each time. He attended Plainview Public Schools. Gerald loved farming and farmed for a number of years before owning his own trucks and then hauling grain for Shephard Feedlot and several other feeflots in the area. In his later years he worked for Goyne Well Service, Douglas Oil, and Agrilance Chemical making deliveries.

He married Jane Dennis on March 18th, 1966. They were married for 56 years and 10 months. They had two precious children.

Gerald was a member of the Hale County REACT emergency center. He loved working with the kid's showing sheep, goats, and pigs. Stock shows were his forte. He served as assistant sheep superintendant for the Hale County Stock Show for a number of years. Gerald never met a stranger and would "talk your leg off". He loved going to the ranch in New Mexico and to Red River and Ruidoso.

Gerald is survived by his wife of the home, one daughter Patty White and husband Royce, of Plainview, one son Loyd Autry and wife Gina of Lubbock, 4 grandchildren; Ross White and wife Becca of Amarillo,Tiffany Wilhelm and husband Edward of Plainview, Chance Autry of Amarillo, and Bo Autry of Lubbock. He is also survived by 3 Great Grandchildren: Kace Spencer and Luke Wilhelm of Plainview, Anna Messman of Amarillo, one brother-in-law Bobby Dennis and wife Billie of Anthone, NM, and a ton of cousins.

Gerald was preceded in Death by his parents and one great granddaughter Madison Renea White.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice and Health Care and Traditions Hospice along with Plainview Health Care for the wonderful care they gave him.
